Fremont Bankruptcy: Credit Counseling Class

Before, bankruptcy laws allowed you to file for bankruptcy at any time.  Today, in order to file for either Chapter 7 or Chapter 13 bankruptcy, you will have to first participate in a credit counseling session within 6 months of filing.

You will also have to pay for and attend a debtor education class after successfully filing for bankruptcy in order to relieve your debts. The debtor education class will instruct you on how to manage your finances better.  This class will take more time than your credit counseling session to complete and may last from 1 to 3 hours.

Being required to pay for the debtor education class means that filing for bankruptcy will cost you some more money.  But some US Trustees may offer debtor education class at their own offices, and attending these classes may be cheaper and more convenient for you.  For more information about getting started with your bankruptcy, call a knowledgeable Fremont attorney at Sagaria Law.
